Nanoparticle-Regulated Phase Behavior of Ordered Block Copolymers

چکیده
Although block copolymer motifs have received considerable attention as supramolecular templates for inorganic nanoparticles, experimental observations of a nanostructured diblock copolymer containing inorganic nanoparticles-supported by theoretical trends predicted from a hybrid self-consistent field/density functional theory-confirm that nanoparticle size and selectivity can likewise stabilize the copolymer nanostructure by increasing its order-disorder transition temperature. * To whom correspondence should be addressed.

A strategy to explore stable and metastable ordered phases of block copolymers.
Block copolymers with their rich phase behavior and ordering transitions have become a paradigm for the study of structured soft materials. A major challenge in the study of the phase behavior of block copolymers is to obtain different stable and metastable phases of the system. A strategy to discover complex ordered phases of block copolymers within the self-consistent field theory framework i...
متن کاملNanoparticle ordering via functionalized block copolymers in solution.
We consider nanoparticles and functionalized copolymers, block copolymers with attached end groups possessing a specific affinity for nanoparticles, in solution. Using molecular dynamics, we show that nanoparticles are able to direct the self-assembly of the polymer/nanoparticle composite. We perform a detailed study for a wide range of nanoparticle sizes and concentrations. We show that the na...
متن کاملControlled supramolecular self-assembly of large nanoparticles in amphiphilic brush block copolymers.
To date the self-assembly of ordered metal nanoparticle (NP)/block copolymer hybrid materials has been limited to NPs with core diameters (D(core)) of less than 10 nm, which represents only a very small fraction of NPs with attractive size-dependent physical properties. Here this limitation has been circumvented using amphiphilic brush block copolymers as templates for the self-assembly of orde...
متن کاملSolvent-regulated ordering in block copolymers
Studies of the structural polymorphism exhibited by block copolymers in the presence of selective solvents are relatively recent, but very promising in terms of fundamental understanding and practical applications. Highlighting recent advances, this review progresses from ‘dry’ ordered ( ) copolymers to solvated ordered gel-like copolymers and ( ) lastly to solvated disordered but locally organ...
متن کاملNanoparticle-driven assembly of block copolymers: a simple route to ordered hybrid materials.
The addition of nanoparticles that selectively hydrogen bond with one of the segments of a block copolymer is shown to induce order in otherwise disordered systems. This enables the fabrication of well-ordered hybrid materials with spherical, cylindrical, or lamellar domains at particle loadings of more than 40%, as evidenced by TEM and SAXS. The approach described is simple and applicable to a...
